Blue Dragon (ブルードラゴン Buru Doragon) romanized as BLUE DRAGON in Japan was originally developed by Mistwalker and Artoon but before the game was released, a TV anime version was announced to air April 7, 2004 on Japan's TV Tokyo channel. The anime was originally scheduled to run for 51 episodes but was successfully extended for another season.

Blue Dragon: Trial of the Seven Shadows (ブルードラゴン 天界の七竜 Burū Doragon: Tenkai no Shichiryūlit. Blue Dragon: The Seven Sky Dragons) is the second season of the Blue Dragon TV anime directed by Yukihiro Matsushita, and produced by TV Tokyo, SKY Perfect Wellthink, Pierrot.
Viz Media has dubbed the second season under the name "Blue Dragon: Trial of the Seven Shadows". As of May 3, 2010, Cartoon Network in the United States and Pakistan began airing the second season (English dubbed) every weekday at 4:30 pm.
